He is the owner and chief product developer of GCM Racing. We could stop here, as it’s pretty awesome description already, don’t you think? 😉
But that’s not the reason, why we asked him our “5 questions to:..”. We admire what he does for RC – designing and producing amazing parts (we want them all!), and, most of all 😉 , making YouTube videos that show them in a way, you don’t want to stop watching 🙂 We started at the beggining of our RC adventure and since then we wait impatiently for each new vid 🙂
With a great pleasure we present to you answers from Chris (GCM Racing)! 😀
- How has your RC adventure started and what was your first RC?
My RC adventure started watching my Dad doing scratch builds on planes and some Heli Kits and HeathKit RC Car Kits way back in the 70s. Those days were called the days of waiting… where you took months to build a kit and then FINALLY got some time to enjoy the completed unit. Today we mostly skip that building and waiting and just get RTR kits or ‘Almost ready to fly’ stuff and off we go. I really enjoyed the kit building and still do. My first RC was a Gentle Lady glider with a 2 channel AM radio. I remember building and skinning that airplane for a very long time before it’s first flight, and then I really didn’t want to damage it! My first hobby grade road car was a Aristocraft Wildebeest, which was an electric-to-chain drive 4×4 horrible truck, but it got me hooked completely on trucking.
- Which RC (that you own or owned) is your favorite?
My favorite RC to date was a Cox .049 powered tiny sport plane that ripped like mad and was a total hoot to fly! It had about 3 minutes of flight on a tiny tank of nitro fuel, went full throttle all the time, and really flew well in the wind and everything. That’s the air. By far my favorite truck of all time has to be the new Ascender Blazer with the military paint scheme. Built with modifications, it handles really well and looks super stock at the same time, while being gravity reliable. I love riding this truck, and it gets a TON of trail time!
- What is your dream RC?
I’d love to have an original Byron Seawind float plane. That thing has the best shape of anything in the air, and the Byron kits were really top shelf. Beautiful stuff. Because you can’t get those anymore, that’s something I’d be happy to keep dreaming about.
- What do you like the most in this hobby?
For sure the highlight of RC for me is the people we get to meet all over the place. Dana and I have travelled to tons of scale trucking events and met some fantastic folks with like interests. The DSTP* trucking runs are the best.. and if you’ve been in one, you know what I mean!
- What are 4 things that you always take on your RC adventures?
RC adventures always require a transmitter… which I’ve forgotten a few times! Bring that, batteries, water, and a good attitude… because your equipment may fail you or you may have some other sort of hold up while driving or flying. Everyone will have a better time when the crowd is having the most fun possible and helping eachother out.
